Good Partner

It’s been a while since the last episode aired, but I really wanted to share my thoughts here. Honestly, I never expected to enjoy this drama as much as I did, mainly because it centers around lawyers, which lately isn’t my favorite. But what makes it compelling is its focus on divorce. Yes, Jang Nara and Nam Ji Hyun play divorce attorneys, and they bring so much depth to their roles.

Jang Nara’s character, Cha Eun Kyung, is a 17-year veteran lawyer specializing in divorce cases at Daejung Law Firm. While she helps others navigate divorce, she’s facing her own personal issue, her husband, Kim Ji Sang (Ji Seung Hyun), has cheated on her with a staff member at her firm. She’s heartbroken. Eun Kyung then meets Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun), a new lawyer at the firm who couldn’t be more different. Yu Ri is outspoken against injustice, while Eun Kyung, with her years of experience, approaches things more tactically.

One day, Eun Kyung asks Yu Ri to represent her as her lawyer. That’s when things get really interesting. Eun Kyung believes that Yu Ri, with her fresh ideas and beginner’s perspective, can understand her situation and handle this case well. But what moved me the most was Eun Kyung’s daughter, Kim Jae Hee (played by Yuna). The show makes us truly feel Jae Hee’s heartbreak as she learns the painful truth. She’s just a child, and the most gut-wrenching moment is when Jae Hee witnesses her father’s betrayal and can only cry silently, holding all the pain inside.

I appreciate how the writer and director portray the complexities of marriage, divorce, and their impact on children. Some viewers might feel it’s not a perfect ending or resolution, but the story sheds light on what’s ultimately best for Eun Kyung, Jae Hee, and even Jae Hee’s father.

The divorce team at Daejung Law Firm is also great. I love how Kim Joo Han (Jung Woo Jin) stands by Eun Kyung during tough times, and Jeon Eun Ho (Pyo Ji Hoon/P.O.) – who finally starts dating Yu Ri and finds his own purpose by the end. I read many viewers hoped Joo Han and Eun Kyung would end up together, but *spoiler alert* I like that they remain best friends, always supporting each other.

This might be the first time I’ve watched a law drama focused on divorce, and I have no regrets, even though I cried a lot during Eun Kyung and Jae Hee’s scenes. I think it’s time for Jang Nara to be nominated for Best Actress at the Baeksang Awards. Let’s see!
